As Will Ferrel says “Its Mind Bottling”. Ayngaran cried foulabout the release of 3 songs from Sivaji’s album yet as of today the full album is available free here for download.
I have listed below the unforeseen developments before the Sivaji’s music release
1. On March 22nd three songs were released.
2. Producers started accepting pre-orders of the music album and even scheduled the official release of the music album 2 days ahead.
3. On March 31st all the songs including the CD cover image is available for free.
What happened in the blogworld?
1. A well known blogin cyberworld reviewed the illegal downloads. Someone in the comment section of that blog claimed that the songs are just scraps and the mastering quality will be better in official release. Immediately milliblog has put that comment in prominence without any verification.
2. Some ardent fans of the movie/music director started collecting the web links posting the 3 songs.
3. One of the blogs went to the extent of analysing the reasons behind the release of songs.
Interesting posts will continue…
Hi!
Just to set the record straight, I did not put Shafeeq’s comment in prominence. I just mentioned the fact that 2 other popular sites – IndiaGlitz and Behindwoods – put that up in prominence. Please do read the post fully, next time!
Thanks
Karthik
@Karthik,
As long as your website reminds a personal weblog, you can do whatever you like. Lots of people visit your website and you have started advertising which means you must take responsibility. The reason for the confusion (in blog world) seems to be that you reviewed illegal downloads in first place, on which Mr. Shafeeq had a happy ride. Moreover IndiaGlitz is referring a blog (”A hand out issued by them in a blog read”), may be 100 words is not enough to depict accurate information.
You are talking about Music Plagiarism and what you do is not the way Buddha followed. May be Mr. Thapar should interview you about this incident. Copyright anyone??
Naatukku romba thevayana blog thaan… thambi!
sivaji songs review post pannurathu..
Murali: Apologize for this massive delay in responding – just saw the repartee!
I fail to understand what the confusion is, actually. The songs leaked on the net. Reviews were flowing around in many forums, mine was one, in a blog. If I hadn’t, another blogger would have, anyway.
Now, whats the confusion here? The leak was a fact. That doesn’t mean I’ve to close my net connection to it and abstain from listening to it – As long as I buy the original CD whenever it releases. Thats the actual problem. Not downloading leaked tracks.
As for advertising, if you’d hosted this blog in blogger (I agree, its not as flexible as wp), you could add ads in a jiffy. That doesn’t make you any more responsible on what you write than without ads. ‘A handout issued’ by IndiaGlitz is clearly misleading since Shafeeq’s was a comment, in my blog’s post. How can that sound like a handout to IG?
The only fact is that Shafeeq misled me and every other reader of my blog. But again, whats the problem here? Was there any monetary loss? Bodily harm? Nada! All it required was a update from my side clarifying things. Thats sure there, for people to read and make up their minds.
Karthik – Lets agree to disagree. Reviewing leaked content is not the best way to go and I can only hope that you review all the movie songs after a legal purchase.
Fair enough. Just one point – when something like this leaks, its available to everyone with net access. Its in the public domain, not just available through some vague underground source. People listen to it. I do too. The only difference – I decide to share my opinion on it.
In fact, I get calls from music labels asking me to review soundtracks before they release and they are willing to share the soundtrack through online sources (their website!) only to me for doing a review. I refuse, for two obvious reasons – they may look for a positive review, considering they’re asking me a favor by exposing the music before its release and more importantly, I need to explain to readers where I got the songs from. If I say I got it from the record label, and my review is positive, then I lose whatever little credibility I have – whatever my opinion on the soundtrack may be.
But Sivaji’s case was different – the leak actually helped them build a huge online frenzy so much so that TV channels even in the north picked up the story and the soundtrack gained an extra mileage. Plus, as I had mentioned earlier, the songs were available to anyone who wanted it – not just me. So, there’s not even a moral dilemma there!
@Karthik – Your explanation justifies that you were instrumental in creating confusion. Posting reviews as the first blogger is not important. Doing the right thing matters whether its in public domain or underground. As Anninyan says “5 paisa thirudina thappa”. Doing something incorrect and saying that it is not wrong is childish.
Sorry for acting childishly. Hmmm…interesting point of view, but. A bit irrelevant to this Sivaji-leak discussion since you’re trying to get morality where its not warranted. 5 paisa thirudina, someone else loses. That loss is the deciding factor whether its wrong. There should be an aggrieved party in the transaction to decide ‘wrong’.
Who do you think will be the aggrieved party in the case of my review? AVM/ music label? Unlikely, since I’m not responsible for the leak. Still, have they lost anything due to my review? No chance, if anything, they won a few more customers – just a few more, Milliblog is not very popular.
Readers of my blog? Unlikely again, since they volunteered to read that. The confusion you’re talking about is an entirely trivial issue not worth anybody’s time/ effort. So, what was the loss, if at all, to any person/ organization due to my review?
@Karthik
“Morality where its not warranted” – May be in this leak scam you are right. I should not be searching for morality because in Shankar’s films the leak is happening consistently.
